George Herbert Festival

Thursday 10th - Sunday 13th July

We were delighted that the Festival achieved over 2000 bookings, representing more than 75% of the total available. And from the Garden Party on the Thursday afternoon to the Festival Eucharist on the Sunday morning we were blessed with gloriously fine weather. The scope and scale of our programme, the venues for the events and the level of organisation all attracted favourable comment from those who attended.

Thank you for coming

We are most grateful to all those who came along to the Festival and supported our celebration of George Herbert's life and works. Clearly we not only attracted a lively and appreciative gathering of George Herbert enthusiasts, but also we succeeded in spreading the word about Herbert to many who knew little or nothing about him prior to the Festival. We particularly appreciated the generous donations towards defraying our expenses made by those who came to our free events.

Festival Picture Gallery

To remind those who came to the Festival of its four sunny enventful days, and to show everyone else a little of what they missed, here are 3 pages of pictures taken at the various events. Most of the photographs were taken for us by members of the Salisbury Camera Club, for which we are most grateful.

What Next?

It was never our intention to create an annual event, and so it is most unlikely that the Festival will be repeated in 2015 or indeed for the next few years. However the knowledge and experience we have gained this year will be carefully recorded and preserved for possible use in the future.

Commemorative Booklet

In the meantime, we are working on the production of a commemorative booklet, entitled 'Gladnesse of the Best', which we shall be publishing in the autumn. We aim to include contributions from those who spoke at the Festival, including Rowan Williams and Gillian Clarke, and the booklet will provide a photographic reminder of all our events. Only a limited number of copies will be printed, so early reservation is strongly recommended. To reserve a copy, please complete the order form and return it with advance payment. The postage charge is £2.00 for a single copy or £3.00 for 2 to 5 copies. For postage of more than 5 copies, please contact us
