Friends of St. Andrew's
The Friends of St. Andrew's Bemerton is a sub-committee of Bemerton Parochial Church Council, and has the following objectives:
The upkeep and repair of the fabric and fittings of St. Andrew's Church, Bemerton, Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK.
The promotion of St. Andrew's Church, Bemerton as a place of pilgrimage, and as a memorial to George Herbert, priest, pastor and poet.
Activities
With a building the age of St Andrew’s there is always work to be done to maintain it. Over the last four years we have replaced the porch roof and a rotten wall plate, repointed flints on the western wall of the church, and replaced inappropriate hard render in the interior former North door area of the church. In 2012 we installed new heaters and fitted pew cushions. Our next task, which we hope to complete this coming year, is to refurbish the iconic bell cote.
Some members of the local community have formed a George Herbert in Bemerton Group, and each year they they organise various events to mark the association of George Herbert with Lower Bemerton.
You can keep up to date with these events and ongoing restoration work through the medium of this website. If you would like further information, or are interested in helping us with our work, please contact us at friends@georgeherbert.org.uk.
Alternatively, if you would like to go on our mailing list to be kept informed, please print and complete our
